Brief History
Prelude
The Bangladeshi Engineers & Computer Science Professionals of British Columbia (BECBC) boasts a rich and diverse history. In late 2004, Bazlul Karim initiated discussions among Bangladeshi-origin engineers who had either immigrated to Canada as engineering professionals or were studying at UBC at that time. The objective was to establish an association that would assist migrated engineers and computer science professionals in their job search endeavors, while also facilitating educational seminars, training programs, and networking opportunities with other relevant organizations. These initiatives aimed to enhance their qualifications to align with the local business demands.
During its inception, key contributors played pivotal roles in the formation of the organization. Mizan Majumder spearheaded external communication, including organization registration and event management. Md Mujibur Rahman oversaw membership and operational matters, while Shamsul Alam focused on membership-related activities. Iqbal Hossain Bhuiyan took charge of drafting the constitution, and Bazlul Karim served as the Convenor, overseeing communication methods and event management. In 2019, Humayun Hamid took the lead in coordinating with all volunteers and proposed a restructuring of the association. This involved amending the constitution to include various positions and breathe new life into the organization.
Since its establishment, BECBC has successfully organized numerous events, including sessions on effective job search strategies, technical workshops, and training programs covering popular engineering and office application software. Additionally, social gatherings have been organized to foster a sense of community among members.
